Andreas Kilcher is full Professor of Literature and Cultural Studies at the Eidgenössische Technische Hochschule (ETH) Zurich. A recognized specialist in Jewish literature and cultural history, as well as in European esoteric traditions, his research explores the intersections between Jewish and European cultures from the sixteenth century to the present day. He is the author of Geteilte Freude: Schiller-Rezeption in der jüdischen Moderne (Lyrik Kabinett, Munich, 2007), as well as biographies of Franz Kafka (Suhrkamp, Frankfurt, 2008) and Max Frisch (Suhrkamp, Berlin, 2011). Much of his work also focuses on German-Jewish literature, the Kabbalah in modern Europe, and the relationships between knowledge and literature.

Images of the Grotesque and Arabesque: The Discovery of Kafka’s Drawings

Franz Kafka: The Drawings (Yale University Press, 2022) edited by Andreas Kilcher has been translated into several langages. It brings together more than one hundred previously unpublished drawings by Franz Kafka. These graphic works reveal a hitherto little-known dimension of the modernist writer. Through them unfold three interwoven narratives: the history of the drawings’ transmission, Kafka’s practice as a draftsman, and the subtle dialogue between his visual art and his writing.

We look forward to seeing you there !
